We welcome submissions from North-East Scotland based artists for cover artwork for our anthology of new North-East Scots/Doric writing. The anthology will be comprised of new, contemporary poetry, flash fiction, short stories, and short plays suitable for S1 students and upwards.
We are looking for vibrant and eye-catching artwork that will fit on an A5 book cover with our title (still TBD). The artwork can be in any form (paint, print, digital design etc.) but must be digitised so that we can use it for the book cover. The selected artist will receive £100 for the artwork, plus remuneration for any time at meetings with the anthology editor and typesetter as required. They will also receive a complimentary copy of the anthology and an invite to the launch in February 2023.
Please send submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line as ‘Doric anthology artwork’ and attach your proposed cover artwork as a pdf file or jpeg by midnight on Sunday 1st January 2023. We will select the artwork after that date and notify the chosen artist before 12th January 2023. We look forward to seeing your art.
This project is a collaboration between writer Jo Gilbert and The Friends of Elphinstone, Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen and funded by Creative Funding. Through conversations with teachers and others working in and around Scots, a lack of new work suitable for older students in Doric was identified, sparking the idea for an anthology of new writing.
